Tradune vs Koyfin
Koyfin is a broad market-data terminal with a portfolio tab; Tradune is a portfolio-measurement tool with market data around it. The sharpest difference today is how each records what you traded.
Checked on October 16, 2026 against Koyfin’s own pages · sources listed under the table.
Tradune is a fit if you want every buy and sell you enter kept on record and your money-weighted return measured against the same cash flows in SPY, with VaR, SEC insider and 13F signals and tax-loss harvesting on your holdings.
Not a fit if you mainly want broad market, macro and analyst-estimate dashboards, model portfolios or advisor client tools — Koyfin is stronger there.
Koyfin is a Bloomberg-lite dashboard for market data, charts, analyst estimates and macro — popular with investors who want broad coverage in one screen.

Where Koyfin is strong
- Broad market, analyst-estimate and macro data coverage
- Flexible dashboards and watchlists
- Good global and cross-asset breadth
Where Tradune goes further
Koyfin is strong on broad market and macro dashboards; Tradune goes deeper on your own holdings: every buy and sell you enter kept with its date, a money-weighted return (XIRR) against the same cash flows in SPY, VaR/beta/drawdown risk, SEC insider cluster and 13F signals, and a tax-loss-harvesting workflow. Every analytic is free right now.
Specifically, versus Koyfin, the gaps it closes are:
- Portfolio risk metrics are drawdown and exposure based; no VaR workflow found
- No insider cluster detection or tax-loss-harvesting workflow found
- Full analyst/estimate depth needs the paid tier
- My Portfolio tracks current holdings and lots (purchase date, quantity, average cost); recording sells as a transaction history was not supported as of October 16, 2026 — Koyfin’s feature board lists it as under review
How Koyfin and Tradune compute the numbers
| Question | Tradune | Koyfin |
|---|---|---|
| How is your return measured? | Money-weighted return (XIRR) on every deposit, buy, sell and dividend you record, plus a time-weighted (TWR) base-100 curve. Under a year of history it shows a cumulative figure and does not annualise. | My Portfolio reports P/L split into price and FX effects, a lot-weighted P/L % and a total return that assumes every dividend is reinvested. A money- or time-weighted portfolio return is not described in the notes we read. |
| How are trades recorded? | Each buy, sell, deposit, withdrawal and split you enter is kept with its own date and price; P&L and returns are computed from those rows. | Holdings and individual lots (purchase date, quantity, average cost). Recording sells as a transaction history was not supported as of October 16, 2026; the feature request is under review. |
| Cost basis and US tax lots | FIFO, LIFO or average cost, set per portfolio. The realized-gains report splits short- from long-term and flags a loss sale with a same-symbol buy within 30 days as a possible wash sale. No specific-lot selection. | Lots are tracked with purchase date and average cost; no realized-gains, short/long-term or wash-sale report found. |
| Getting your holdings in | Manual entry, or a positions CSV of up to 200 rows (Fidelity, Schwab and Robinhood exports are recognised). No broker connection and no automatic sync — new trades are entered by hand. | Manual entry or CSV upload in My Portfolio. Broker and custodian integrations exist only in Client Portfolios on the Advisor Core and Advisor Pro plans. |
| What is the benchmark? | A SPY twin: your own cash flows replayed into SPY on the same dates, on a total-return series with dividends reinvested. The time-weighted curve plots SPY and QQQ. | Model Portfolios (Advisor plans) compare against an ETF, mutual fund or another model portfolio, with drawdown and stress-test snapshots. |

Has Koyfin added transaction history to My Portfolio?
Not yet, as of October 16, 2026. On its public feature board the request “historic transactions in My Portfolio” is marked under review; a staff reply on June 1, 2026 said it is not supported today and is planned, and one on August 17, 2026 said they are looking into it for next quarter. Its release-notes index shows no release adding it.
What My Portfolio does track is holdings and lots — purchase date, quantity and average cost — with P/L split between price and currency and a total return that assumes dividends are reinvested. That is enough to value a portfolio. It is not enough to compute a money-weighted return on irregular deposits and sales, which needs each cash flow with its date — the gap Tradune is built around. Check Koyfin’s release notes for the current state before deciding.
Where is Koyfin stronger?
Breadth. Koyfin’s plans add financials, estimates, dashboards, screens and watchlists, and its recent releases include insider ownership data in its screener and watchlists, short positions in My Portfolio and fund-level risk statistics. Its Advisor plans add model portfolios with attribution, rebalancing and stress tests, client portfolios and custodian integrations — none of which Tradune offers.
Tradune is narrower on purpose: the trade-level return against SPY, portfolio VaR and beta, SEC Form 4 cluster detection and 13F ownership on your holdings, and a tax-loss-harvesting view.
Frequently asked
Does Koyfin track portfolio transactions?
Not as of October 16, 2026. Koyfin’s My Portfolio records current holdings and lots (purchase date, quantity and average cost), and its staff have written that portfolios do not support transactions or trades. On its public feature board the request is marked under review, with a staff reply from August 17, 2026 saying they are looking into it for next quarter — check Koyfin’s release notes for the current state. In Tradune you enter each buy and sell (a broker CSV import brings in positions), and cost basis and returns are computed from them.
Is Tradune a good Koyfin alternative?
For portfolio-level risk (VaR/beta/drawdown), insider/13F signals and tax tooling, Tradune goes deeper on your own holdings. Koyfin is stronger for broad market-data dashboards and analyst-estimate coverage.
Does Tradune show macro data like Koyfin?
Yes — a Macro & Rates dashboard sourced from FRED (rates, CPI, unemployment, yield curve), free and keyless.
